Chocolate Lucuma Blueberry Dessert Smoothie

Yesterday (Tuesday) was officially my last day of class for the term. On my walk home, I realized that I don't often write about school or my degree in this space. It's strange, given that most of my time is spent either at school or doing school work, but this space has become a respite from those university related activities and I think it is part of what has kept me going throughout this year. The thing is, I started to really FEEL how long I'd been in school. I don't mean the last 4 years of university, but rather the last 18 years that comprise almost my entire life! It's a weird feeling to realize that I've basically never not been in school, and while I feel so completely lucky and privileged to have received the education I have, I also feel really done. I am so ready to go explore the world, and even if that just means working a minimum wage job and saving up for my next adventure, I am so in! Sebastian and I have a tentative plan to move to BC once we are both finished our degrees, and my adventuring heart is practically bursting out of me to run across the country and climb those mountains, swim in that gorgeous expanse of ocean. 

In lieu of real flowers (because Montreal hasn't quite caught up with the sunshine of warmer places) I decided to frame this smoothie around these bright little fabric ones. Last week I went for a run outdoors and it completely made my weekend! The feeling of cold, fresh air on my face and dirt under my feet was exactly the thing that I had been missing. This smoothie is a celebration of both spring and the end of the school year. It is purple, sweet, decadent, berry filled, bursting with brightness and studded with chocolate. The lucuma gives it that extra something, a little caramely mapley flavouring to send this riiiight over the top. I've always been a fan of freezing my chocolate bars in the summer time, and the chocolate in this smoothie takes on a similar effect. Chocolate Lucuma Blueberry Dessert Smoothie

Serves One



  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 banana, frozen and sliced
  • 1/2 cup plant milk (I used cashew)
  • 1/4 cup water (or more plant milk)
  • 1 tbsp tahini
  • 1 tsp lucuma powder
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla (optional)
  • 50g good quality dark chocolate, finely chopped (save some for topping)
  • Optional toppings: chopped chocolate, blueberries, raspberries, walnuts, tahini



Combine all of the ingredients (except for the toppings) in a blender and blend on high speed until smooth and creamy. Pour into your favourite glass and top with desired toppings. Enjoy! This smoothie is best when fresh (I expect it would last about a day in the fridge, but I haven't tested that).
